Word to History Unwrapped

Is it just me or has the History Channel turned into a giant episode of Food Network’s Unwrapped? Honestly, I turn to the History Channel because I want to watch an hour of “experts” telling me that the Da Vinci Code is totally true and not a complete work of fiction or that the Knight’s Templar really did hide a big secret treasure that Nicholas Cage is desperate to find to restore the name of his family.

If I wanted to learn about the secrets of the chocolate industry, don’t you think I would be watching the Food Network already? Go back to what you do best. Nostradamus would predict and want it that way.

Word to The Prestige

OMG. OMG. I saw The Prestige today and it was ridiculously good. Arguably the best movie I have seen since… last year’s Oscar season.

But as always, I would have preferred the casting of someone other than Scarlett Johansson. She’s becoming a bit tedious to watch on screen.

Goodness, I’m still thinking about parts in the movie in relation to the twists at the end. Just go see it… don’t see The Return. Don’t support Sarah Michelle Gellar in mediocrity! Don’t do it!

Word to an Unseasonably Warm Winter

So I didn’t vote today. I started writing this post about how confused I was about politics, but that’s not true. I know what’s up. I just can’t make up my mind.

I feel like if I went and voted today it would have been on a whim… just whoever I felt like voting for at the time, and it would certainly not be as informed a decision as I would hold myself to the standard of making.

One issue that I have made my mind up about is global warming. And I hate hate HATE how close-minded people can be about global warming. I have one incredibly Republican friend who tried to convince me over the summer that global warming is just pure baloney. I tried to listen to her and respect her opinion… but then I just got angrier. I mean honestly, if global warming is the big hoax most Republicans want it to be, does that really matter? Plans of action to reduce global warming can only improve the environment if they reduce pollution in the air. So even if global warming turns out to be untrue (which it won’t), it’s a win win for everyone if we make efforts to breathe cleaner air. And moreover, global warming really should be the concern of everyone. It really has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats.

That being said, I do regret not being registered to vote and neglecting to vote today. Republican candidate Bob Corker denies the validity of global warming. I’d like to see his degree in environmental science. But no one else cares… because maybe they’ll get to meet his daughters. Well, I hope you all enjoy meeting his daughters as New York City sinks further and further into the Atlantic.

Word to Day One

It’s DAY ONE.

And don’t you worry. This year I’m bringing my A-game to the 54 days before Christmas. We’re talking gingerbread lattes, West Wing Christmas episode marathons, Spree candy canes, the Muppets Christmas Carol soundtrack on constant loop in my car. I even have a strong desire to suddenly be blessed with the knowledge of knitting and knit lots and lots of Christmas scarves. Sure, that last one is pretty impractical, but Christmas is when dreams come true, so why not?

I do wish I didn’t have to ring in the Christmas season on a day where the high will be 71 degrees. But cheer up… the low today will be 48!
