Foods I don't eat: Beef in general

food-beefgeneral.jpgI don’t eat beef. There, I said it!

Just because I don’t eat beef doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with me. Every time I reveal this “secret” to someone, they immediately ask me if I am a vegetarian. NO, I AM NOT A VEGETARIAN. I just don’t eat beef.

What it ultimately comes down to is that I would just rather have chicken or fish. Beef just doesn’t appeal to me in the same way. And I think not wanting beef gives me an advantage–beef is expensive! But I guess my love of fish cancels that out… but still!

Exceptions:

  1. The queso dip at Chili’s that has ground beef in it
  2. Occasions when my mom throws beef into something and I don’t gag (these are few and far between)
  3. American Chop Suey
  4. My dad made beef tenderloin on Easter this year and it was pretty alright

Given a choice between a hamburger and anything with chicken, I’ll almost always choose the chicken.

Do you have a favorite kind of fish?

  2. I am pretty much COMPLETELY with you on this.

To answer your “Are you Catholic?” inquiry… I’m not. It’s worse. I’m Baptist. Of the Southern persuasion, mind you. Minus all the judgement and we-don’t-let-women-or-gays-do-anything philosophy.

I’m reading a book right now called UnChristian that’s all about Christians giving Christians a bad rep. I’ll let you know if there’s a bit about Catholics and guilt. ;)

  3. Chicken will always be my first love. Salmon comes in as my favorite fish.

I do eat meat, mostly burgers though. I’ve been more of a meat eater since I started dating The Boy.

  4. Chicken is my absolute favorite but I do enjoy beef, namely steak.

  5. aw. i love beef. why don’t i say that everyday?

  6. That’s cool. I have a friend who will not eat ANYTHING with beef in it.

As for me, I like it all. I’ve been known to love a good steak every once in a while. But I mostly eat chicken because it’s less expensive. And I love fish, too.

  7. I never used to eat any meat (no chicken, fish, turkey) until last year. I haven’t eaten beef in over 15 years now, I think. It kind of freaks me out, and it really started to freak me out when I began to eat chicken–I still haven’t told my mom that I eat it because I don’t want her to start suddenly making me meals with chicken in them. It’s just tradition I guess.

So, in summary, I completely understand why you don’t like beef.

  8. i prefer a lot of meat over beef too :) you are not strange at all.

Red meat is often high in saturated fats anyway, so you’re not missing out on anything.. except maybe heart disease :p

I do eat beef occasionally but would never buy it for myself; give me salmon or chicken thighs any day.

  10. I do love me some beef… but I’ve only recently found the wonders of chicken burgers! It’s hard to find a good one, but when you do, a good chicken burger outweighs a good beef burger ten times over!

  11. My oldest daughter doesn’t eat beef either. She does eat boneless chicken, and fish.
