I just got back from Pittsburgh, which I am kind of in love with right now, and I have many things to say about my visit, but first I need to talk about the second most exciting thing that happened to me last week.
I went to Dollywood! For free. For class. How did I do it, you ask?
Just go to UT and major in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism… that’s how! If you do that, I can guarantee you will have to opportunity to go to Dollywood for free at least 2 or 3 times throughout the duration of your studies. Last Wednesday was my second time, and I’m guessing I’ll get another opportunity to go before I graduate this December.
After a day full of rollercoasters, water rides, and Reysheid posing just like this for almost every camera on every ride, my classmates and I relaxed with a quiet little dinner at a small, unheard of local joint called Dixie Stampede.
And if you were wondering, the South rose again!

In certain communities, going to Dollywood several times intentionally (and not accidentally!) means that you are officially considered a pilgrim. You might even be a bit holy.
Isn’t Dollywood awesome? I’m not being sarcastic. I would totally visit that place every year. Maybe I should start doing so…
And I went to Dixie Stampede too! Did they have the ostriches? Sweet Jesus I still have not recovered from the frightful sight of those damned ostriches prancing around … :::shudder::::
Leslie- Saint Emma! Does that make Dolly Parton a god?
Christina- YES THEY HAD OSTRICHES. I wish I had gotten a few pictures but I was too busy downing my mason jars of unlimited Pepsi.
I have been in the area of Dollywood, but could not convince any of my travel partners to actually go for it. Because they are all close-minded.
lol. what’s even at dollywood?
Wow looks like you had fun.
And I totally want to go to Dollywood.
Damn, I thought field trips ended in high school!
And I when I first heard of people studying Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism, I stupidly thought, “Phht, yeah, what exactly would you *do* in that?”
Obviously, I wasn’t smart enough to consider amusement parks. Sweet deal!
Alicia- I am sad for you!
Alexis- East Tennessee’s finest haircuts, that’s what!
Lexie- thanks, and you should go!
Jessica- Me too! In fact last November when I put in a request off at work my manager looked at it and said “Field trip? I thought you were in college, not high school!”
First off, I am also in love with Pittsburgh. I have family there and absolutely love it every time I get to visit.
Secondly, I am SUPER jealous of your choice of study. Umm, Dollywood? Sign me up. And the Dixie Stampede? Uh huh. Those were two of my fave things as a child, though we hardly ever got to go…
Yay Pittsburgh!
Dude, I totally picked the wrong major. Gotta go back to school!
