Girl Talk, not girls talking.

I work in an office next to a YMCA, and very often, I sneak out of that office for an hour to enjoy the two things I love the most, music and running. As this is my first guest post on Cloudy Day, and as I run a music blog, I thought I’d hit on the musical note, and follow up Will’s post about girls talking with the actual Girl Talk.

Girl Talk is Mashup DJ Gregg Gillis, a Pittsburgh native who just released his fourth album last week, a 12-track club banger called Feed The Animals that’s pretty hard to summarize, because, as you’ll hear, the album shifts gears every 15-30 seconds, pairing songs like Jay-Z’s Roc Boys over Radiohead’s Paranoid Android, T-Pain and Dolla’s Who The F*** Is That over Avril Lavinge’s Girlfriend, and my favorite mix, Timbaland’s Drop over a mix of Tom Petty, Of Montreal, Good Charlotte, Cheryl Lynn and Schooly D.

The album as a whole covers hundreds of samples, and is already gearing up to be this summer’s party soundtrack, and as one reviewer put it: “If you only buy one album this year, you might as well buy this one – it seems to have all the others on it.

Below are three of my favorite tracks on the album. Hope you enjoy.

1. Shut The Club Down – Girl Talk
2. Give Me A Beat – Girl Talk
3. In Step – Girl Talk

Unfinished

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?  That appears to be my motto this summer.

Today I head back to work after two days off.  I did plenty, PLENTY!!–  I tell you, in these past two days.  But I’m looking around my room this morning thinking back to Tuesday where I said “well, I’m about to have two whole days off, I’m sure I will have time to clean this, read some more of my book, clean my uniform for work, and solve the global energy crisis before I have to get back to work on Friday.”

Did a single one of those things happen?  Neg-uh-tive.

I was far too busy biking, playing kickball, drinking beer while listening to a band practice, forcing a friend to go for a 3 mile run with me, baking cupcakes, babysitting twin girls, AND… sleeping.

The laundry, the still unpacked suitcases… I’ll get around to it.  Tomorrow.

Countdown

0 Days until my mother’s birthday.  (HEY HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!)

2 days until the Biking–Swimming–Kickball triathalon.

15 Days until the Stuff White People Like book comes out.

47 Days until my 21st birthday.

Wow, only 47 days?  That’s not far off at all.  I was thinking the other day it was odd that I didn’t know off the top of my head how many days until I could go out and get wasted at the bars.  Well, now I do!

Pops

Happy Father’s Day to my father who is better than your father.

I am ready and willing to argue my point in the comments of this post.

Thoughts for Saturday

  1. A couple nights ago I was on a road called “Yellow Brick Road.”  It was made of dirt.
  2. If I tried to have a tuna fish sandwich with potato chips on it like I used to do back in kindergarten, would it still taste as delicious as I remember?
  3. I really hope my siblings are arranging a gift for my mother for Monday.
  4. I really hope my siblings are arranging a gift for my father for Sunday.
  5. I never saw the end of The Bodyguard until this morning.
  6. Biked into work this morning.  Shaved another 5 minutes of my time.
  7. Turkey sandwich + baby carrots for lunch = crazy delicious.  Looking forward to it.
  8. If I could stop waking up on my own at 5:15am every morning because of the sunrise, that would be excellent.

The (un)Decider

Okay, just imagine for a minute that you are me.

You’re going to turn 21 in less than 2 months.

You could fly home to Tennessee for a few days and celebrate it there.

Or stay on Martha’s Vineyard and do it big there instead.

What do you do?
