Vacationland!

I just got back from a lovely little trip to the state of Maine.  Maine is so magical a place, that I went to Canada without a passport!  Here’s the proof:

This is me IN CANADA! Without a passport! Suck it, border patrol!!

This is me in front of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s summer home on Campobello Island in… CANADA!  Yes, FDR loved to unwind with the canucks.  I’m surprised I didn’t know about his summer home back in the 5th grade when I researched and played Eleanor Roosevelt in my school’s annual Presidents production.  I’d provide you with photo accompaniment documenting my pageant waving skills, white gloves, and my fancy pillbox hat, but I wouldn’t want to make you insane with jealousy.  (Also I had braces and I can’t let anyone see me like that.)

But I will tell you that I hiked this

I hiked this!!

Visitors

This past weekend my mother, father, and sister Audra got on a ferry boat and came to see me.  Because I’m the best daughter ever, I hooked them up with a sweet suite at my hotel.

The best features of the room were:

  • 3 flatscreen TVs - on which we watched lots of HGTV
  • outdoor shower – which we joked about using in the 50 degree weather
  • soap that smelled like Pez – which Audra took all of

Then I put them on back on the ferry.  I was sad!

Now I will wait until someone else decides to visit me!

Foods I Don't Eat: Hamburgers

When I made up my long list of Food’s I Don’t Eat, I was not eating hamburgers at the time.  But now I eat hamburgers.  What a shame for my arteries.

As a child, I had more than a few hamburgers at various cookouts either hosted or attended by my family, but I never liked them, and one day I decided not to eat them altogether (along with hot dogs).

It all started a year ago in January when I was visiting my sister in Atlanta.  I cannot remember the particulars, but at some point it was decided that weekend would be the time that I break my long streak of not eating burgers.  And we would do it with a bison burger at Ted’s Montana Grill.

At the restaurant I ordered a burger with bacon and avocado, thinking if I really hated the burger there would still be something delicious left to eat.  But did the burger need the help?  OH NO.  It was delicious.  I cannot believe I had gone so long without enjoying a real burger.

Since then, I have not picked up a burger habit like most people.  I eat them only sparingly and when the mood strikes me.  But let me tell you about the most delicious burger I have had in my life so far.  It is at State Road Restaurant.  It comes with homemade fries, as well as homemade ketchup.  The burger is topped with caramelized onions.  The meat is top notch.  It shall be ordered medium unless you are completely lame.

Bye Summer!

Now that Columbus Day has come and gone, the season is officially over on Martha’s Vineyard.  I have some great memories from the summer and met some wonderful people. It’s starting to get quite cold and windy here, so going to the beach to sit and read a book is near impossible, and that I will miss dearly until May comes around.

But now that “winter” is here, I’m also ready to hibernate– read more, knit more, sleep more. I’m sooooo looking forward to it.

Happy October!

Things I currently have that make my life better.

  1. 30 Rock on Netflix instant viewing
  2. the perfect Harry Conick JR Holiday station on Pandora on my iPhone
  3. 2 days of overtime pay
  4. Pride & Prejudice & Zombies

Things I currently want that would make my life better

  1. Coppola Keratin treatment for my hair
  2. 7 for All Mankind jeans
  3. winter boots
  4. gym membership

Oh, if only there were more money!

But seriously October, I like you so far.  Last year I didn’t like you so much because you had me working very hard in school.  This year I’m going to sit back and enjoy the crisp autumn weather.  And maybe dress up as Billy Mays for Halloween!
