Things I Want

P1010653

I said at the beginning of the year that I was going to take more pictures.  One of my reasons for doing this was that I really, really, REALLY want a digital SLR.  But if I am completely honest with myself, I don’t need one at all.  I’m not going to become a photographer, and the point-and-shoot I have currently takes some pretty decent photos for a point-and-shoot.  And I don’t even take pictures all that often, which is why I want to take more– to justify getting a digital SLR.

If I’ve even more honest with myself, I can’t really afford one.  So instead of splurging, I’ve set up a savings account just for a camera, with an automatic bi-weekly transfer of money from my checking.  I’ve just started it, and I’m on track to have saved up enough for a camera in… one year.  Maybe by then I will have entirely convinced myself that I don’t need one and use the money on something more practical.

Alright, I have to go drop $250 now to register for the GMAT.  *cries*

Old-fashioned

My workspace

This is my workspace.  Is it narcissistic to have two pictures of myself on my desk?  Perhaps.

The IT guy at work always gives me crap for buying a Mac.  But it’s what I wanted.  But I tell you what I won’t be buying– an iPad.  Between my MacBook, and my iPhone, do I really need small, smaller, and smallest?  No thanks.

I think Apple could have shown a little more class by not trying to make a Kindle for Mac lovers.  And Kindle’s are nice, but what’s so wrong with an old-fashioned book?  And you can read most of those for free thanks to the library, where I am off to in just a second to get some more… (GASP!) old-fashioned books.

I’ve resisted Lost thus far.  And I will continue to resist.  Lost, you are soooo resistable.

Some good TV

Over the past couple of months, I’ve really gotten into Dexter.  I think it’s one of the best TV shows I’ve seen in quite some time, and it’s really nice to see Michael C. Hall winning some awards for it.  And I’d like to take a short moment to convince you to watch it, if you don’t already…

Reasons to watch Dexter:

  1. It’s on Netflix instant viewing – so you don’t even have to make a commitment with your disc rotation!
  2. Dexter proves that you can make Jimmy Smits be any nationality you want with just a strategic mustache.  VOILA!

Okay, that’s all the clever reasons I could think of at the moment.  It’s just good.  Watch it.

Overcoming The Fear

P1010646

I have been afraid of dogs since before I can remember.  Whenever I would see one I would panic and run away.  In recent years I have tamed this fear to a point where I don’t react to dogs, but inside I am still afraid.

I am overcoming this fear with the help of a little dog named Smeagol (yes, named after Lord of the Rings!).  I’ve taken Smeagol for walks, fed him, lounged, played… and oh my gosh I am interacting with a DOG!  Smeagol has become my little buddy.  We even watch TV together.

This afternoon I turned on the television and The Real Housewives of Orange County was on.  Smeagol immediately barked at the screen, as if to say “come on Emma, watch something of substance.”  I know, Smeagol.  I know!

I like this week so far

P1010640

I like this week so far.  Here’s why:

1.  It started off with a nice dinner for my boyfriend’s birthday.

2.  I renewed my gym membership – so doing good things for myself…

3.  A quote from me was featured on I Will Teach You To Be Rich. SO EXCITING!

4. I had ample opportunities to wear my new boots that Santa brought me.

5. And, we’re having a 40 degree heat-wave on the island.

GOOD TIMES!

Eighty-six Carrie

I’ve been trying to create the perfect country music station on Pandora for quite some time. But every one I make seems to play more Kenny Chesney than I would like. (Note: I hate Kenny Chesney, it’s the same song over and over again.)

But I think this week I finally got it, and I only had to use one artist: Lady Antebellum. I haven’t heard one Kenny Chesney song yet! Now all I need to do is find a way to cut out the negligible amount of Carrie Underwood that seeps in.

Dear Snow,

It’s been great. Really, you made everything winter-pretty. But now it’s time to go. I’m getting a hairdryer outside tomorrow.

Love,
Emma

I fixed the cable in my room today, but the only thing on was Miami Vice. Which is not so much a movie, but a 2-hour commercial for mojitos.

Playlist

Sometimes at the gym, I just listen to Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the USA” and Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Gone Bad” on a continuous loop.
