Me & Siblings at Harpoon Brewery

And what do you know? I’m 24 now. I haven’t been home for a few birthdays in a row, this one being no exception. But I was blessed to have not 1, not 2, but all 3 of my siblings come visit me for my birthday.

Beer TowerSome of the highlights of the trip were:

  • Getting a beer tower
  • Getting a tour of the Harpoon Brewery in Boston (courtesy of my boyfriend!)
  • Going to Martha’s Vineyard
  • Falling asleep on the beach
  • Getting an awkward sunburn from falling asleep on the beach

I love you Maura, Allen, and Audra!

Easter 2011

Easter Beer Tasting

First Easter away from immediately family. Missed them, but spent time with some wonderful people.

The end of an even better week

I don’t want to jinx anything, but I’m fairly optimistic that the Nashville Predators are going to make it to the second round of the NHL playoffs, which will be the furthest they have ever made it.  Fingers crossed.

And even if they don’t, I’m still having a very good week.  Even though this weekend will be the first Easter that I will not be spending with my immediate family, I’m still looking forward to it as I get to see both sides of my extended family.  And lemon cake, there will be LEMON CAKE!

And at sundown on Saturday there will be ice cream.  Ice cream, I have been missing you something fierce.

Dear readers, I am curious if you gave up something for Lent, what it is, and how you will be enjoying it for the first time when Lent is over?

First Thanksgiving Away

This year marked my first Thanksgiving that was not spent at home with my family.  I was working.  I wish I could have been home.  I want one of those jobs where the office is always closed on holidays.

Visitors

This past weekend my mother, father, and sister Audra got on a ferry boat and came to see me.  Because I’m the best daughter ever, I hooked them up with a sweet suite at my hotel.

The best features of the room were:

  • 3 flatscreen TVs - on which we watched lots of HGTV
  • outdoor shower – which we joked about using in the 50 degree weather
  • soap that smelled like Pez – which Audra took all of

Then I put them on back on the ferry.  I was sad!

Now I will wait until someone else decides to visit me!

Veteran's Day

Happy Birthday to my sister Maura!

Test one

My father wanted to me to make it very clear that I am not a Patriots fan, and the glass on the table in the pictures from my birthday party was in no way indicative of my athletic allegiance.  Sorry Aunts Kathy and Penny.

My father also wanted to make sure of something else.

“Is Will a Patriots fan?”

“I don’t know Dad, I don’t think so.”

“Good, that’s test one.”

Things I miss about home

  1. Going to the gym with my father on Saturdays and getting coffee afterwards.
  2. Finding my mom asleep on the couch in front of the TV, waking her up so she can move upstairs, then finding her asleep again in the exact same position.
  3. Sunday breakfasts at The Coffee Beanery after church.
  4. Driving to Columbia to visit my friend Elise.
  5. Going to Sonic right after work.
  6. Going to Sonic right before work.
  7. Having Audra and her friends around the house.
  8. Taking Audra and her friends to the grocery store in my mother’s car on a Red Bull run.
  9. Constantly waking up my brother so he can get to work on time.
  10. Maura coming through the back door when arriving home for a visit.
  11. Being able to hug my mother.

Thoughts for Saturday

  1. A couple nights ago I was on a road called “Yellow Brick Road.”  It was made of dirt.
  2. If I tried to have a tuna fish sandwich with potato chips on it like I used to do back in kindergarten, would it still taste as delicious as I remember?
  3. I really hope my siblings are arranging a gift for my mother for Monday.
  4. I really hope my siblings are arranging a gift for my father for Sunday.
  5. I never saw the end of The Bodyguard until this morning.
  6. Biked into work this morning.  Shaved another 5 minutes of my time.
  7. Turkey sandwich + baby carrots for lunch = crazy delicious.  Looking forward to it.
  8. If I could stop waking up on my own at 5:15am every morning because of the sunrise, that would be excellent.

Trial Separation

I am not sure that words can even express what I feel for the five individuals I am honored to call my family.  And let me say first, that the occasions in which my family and I express our feelings are few and far between.  But I have been away from them for almost a week now, and I have some FEELINGS, dammit.  I just want to say a few words to each of them on this here bloggity blog.

  1. Mom
This past year I have been constantly noticing ways in which I am just like you.  A few years ago this would have bothered me, but it doesn’t anymore because you are my MOM and I love you!  I am so sorry that you had to leave me so quickly on Saturday.  And Lord knows I cried about it later.
  2. Dad
I’m out here giving my best effort everyday.  I hope to God I am making you proud.  I don’t think I tell you enough how much I appreciate everything you do for me.  Let me say it now– you’re the best father I could ask for!
  3. Maura
I am so so happy for you, with everything you have going on in your life since you moved to Atlanta.  I missed you in Knoxville this past year.  I sometimes drove by your apartment just for the heck of it.  I cannot wait until we can have another sneak-out-of-the-house-on-Sunday Which Wich lunch.
  4. Allen
June 1st is right around the corner, my brother!  And as much as a hell hole that place is, I will miss working in the restaurant with you this summer.  I hope you don’t have to work there much longer.  Also, you’re my favorite listener, and for that I thank you.
  5. Audra
STOP GROWING UP, YOU!  I am so scared you are going to grow up so much this summer that I will hardly recognize you when I get back.  You’re one of my favorite parts of summer– trips to Target, watching TV on DVD in the bonus room, and hair straightening sessions with the fake CHI.  It is a joy always having you to hang out with, and I love it!

Wow, these started to sound like Senior memories.  Funny, yet-upsetting-to-me story, my Senior memories never got put in the yearbook.  FAIL, yearbook staff, big time FAIL!
