I heart Netflix

My boyfriend always says it’s the little things that get me.  Like a delicious pepperoni pizza Lean Pocket with only 290 calories!  Delicious pizza 290 calories!

One little thing that has really brightened my day is all the new TV shows that have been added to Netflix instant viewing.  It really is a Godsend to someone who works overnight and has to fill about 5 hours of quality sitting down time.

This week Netflix added:  Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Prison Break, 24, X-Files, Roswell, and Arrested Development.  It just seems too good to be true!  Thank you Netflix!  I love you like a brother!

And that's the Word!

Today I purchased the Stephen Colbert “The Word” application from iTunes.  It was the best 99 cents I’ve spent all year.

My embarrassing internet past

Hey you… let’s talk fandom.

I’m a fan of many things. Chances are you are too.

In fact, I used to be such the fan, that I had my own fansites. And no, you don’t get to see them. It’s embarrassing.

I had a referring URL today from a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fansite. I clicked on the link and had an immediate flashback to middle school and bad, awful, terrible, web design.

Adjustable frames! Scrolling and blinking text! Graphic sunblasts! Guestbooks! Web rings! Banners! Javascript trivia quizzes!

I did it all. And what’s more? I did it with style. I’m guessing about half the people who read this site know me from those days. So see? I was doing something right.

Today while I was packing up from my weekend in Franklin, Tennessee, I impulsively decided to grab my Buffy DVD’s and have a marathon while studying for the two easiest final exams of my life. I’m about to pop in the first disc and it’s like reuniting with an old friend. Is that sad? Probably, but I really don’t care. At least I don’t make websites about it anymore!

Opening Up

Pensieve

A year ago, I would never have told anyone I had a blog.

A few friends from high school were aware, but outside of those special people, I told no one. And now? I talk about it almost daily with my classmates. While accompanying her on some errands, my friend Natalie asked me “are you gonna blog about this?” Of course, Natalie. Of course!

Hello, friend!

Two years ago, I would have frozen stiff at the sight of a dog.

I had been terrified of dogs for as long as I can remember. And now? Bello and I are practically friends.

Please?

This is just a shot in the dark, but would anyone like to guest-design this blog?

If you would like to, there’s a thank-you note and possibly some baked goods with your name on it.  And I might throw in a Target giftcard.  You never know.

Word to Other Blogs

As some of you may or may not know, I do keep a LiveJournal. The convenience of having all your friends’ posts on one page all together is great. But now that I have finally gotten myself into the world of RSS, I find myself rarely visiting LiveJournal or posting there except in times of extreme fangirlyness. To be honest, I miss the blogging arena.

But now that I have finally redesigned this site to my liking, I find myself out of touch with blogging. Not the actual act of posting, but with other blogs. My links list down there to the right is minimal. Most of the time I just go to Maura’s site and visit her links (hey, what are sisters for?), but even that isn’t getting it done for me.

So if you have a blog that’s good and not neon yellow colored, please comment and let me know where it is. I love reading about cooking, Stephen Colbert, politics (with a sense of humor), your weekly bowling league, music (not emo), and movies. If you talk about any of these things on your blog, please comment.

word to macs

So I have this new part-time job. And at this new part-time job I get to sit at a Mac for about 4 hours straight, browsing the internet. And they pay me for this, which is the best part.

But now I really want a Mac. Sometimes I resent Maura for talking me into getting a PC. She claimed it’s more compatible for a college campus. But I’m pretty sure I would have been a-okay with a Mac. And now I have to live with my Dell for many years to come.

If only there was some way to make decent money doing what I already do– spending a ridiculous amount of time on the computer. Oh wait…

Word to community computers

Community ComputersI recently had my internet access disabled because I downloaded an episode of HBO’s Big Love. Yeah, I know. They caught me with the polygamy!

Anyhow, last night I had a project for statistics that I needed to work on, but all the instructions were online. So I had to go and use the community computers. And no, they’re really not that gross. In fact, I bet most of them are brand new.

I stayed up pretty late last night working on the project. I’m not proud of my lack of sleep, but I am proud that I got it done a day early. While I was there I also checked my email and such, and this site looks really good on community computers. So… congratulations to me I guess.

But what really gets me about not being able to download anymore is that I missed the first 25 minutes or so of The West Wing because our local NBC news channel decided that they needed to do a half hour report on the hail\tornado\thunderstorm weather that was coming our way. And now I can’t download it to see what I missed. How dare you hailstorm… how dare you?

Word to upcoming redesign

The fact that this layout is awful does not escape me.  Stay tuned.

Word to Fat Tuesday

Happy Mardi Gras everyone. Here’s the new layout (at least for a little while). I kind of threw it together rather quickly after finding a template that was easy to customize, unlike the last one.

So Lent starts tomorrow. I’m attempting to give up chocolate and soda. We’ll see how it goes. Also, I felt like I had to try way too hard to eat a ton of food today. At dinner tonight I had little more than a salad. I put some pizza on my plate but didn’t feel like eating it. This is hard!

Well, happy Lenting. Don’t forget to fast between meals tomorrow and don’t eat any meat!
