I’m usually pretty good about stressing myself out over things that will eventually work themselves out despite my overstressing. But right now I am overstressing. I don’t know what/who/where I will be in a month. I am officially freaking out. Alright, back to the mountain of work I have to do.

Willingness to Coffee
Almost everyday I’m faced with a coffee dilemma.
I should preface this dilemma by letting you know that I have the unique situation of driving across state lines not only once, but twice a day. This presents itself with some unique advantages, specifically in terms of sales tax.
In the morning I leave Rhode Island, enter Massachusetts for a brief period, and then continue the rest of my commute in Rhode Island. As I live in New England, there are literally dozens of opportunities for me to purchase a Dunkin Donuts coffee (a thank you God for that!).
But every morning I must decide:
- purchase a coffee at the start of my commute in Massachusetts for the price of $1.90
- purchase a coffee at the end of my commute in Rhode Island, for the price of $1.94
Seems simple – just buy in Mass and save the four cents. But then I drink almost the entire coffee before I get to school. If I buy in Rhode Island, than I have almost all of the coffee when I get to school. Most days I feel that is worth the four cents.
Therefore my willingness to coffee is high.
UPDATE: here is a map of my Dunkin dilemma.
Time travel
This picture has nothing to do with this post. I just have a hard time living without photo accompaniment.
I know people always say you should live your life without regrets. Well piffel to those people, because I regret many many things.
Regret can be a good thing. It can push you forward to do something else. And that’s what it’s doing to me now. So yay for regret!
If you had a time travel machine and could go back in time and convince yourself to change one thing, what would it be? I would tell myself to get a degree in economics. But no matter, I think I’ll just get a PhD in that later. Now onto the MBA first.
And a hot tip? If you start to hear more bad things about Greece in the news I would just go ahead and trade any of those Euro’s you’re sitting on for dollars. Maybe Canadian dollars.
Relieved!
So, I just finished taking my GMAT. I’m pretty excited about my score. Probably won’t get me into Wharton, but I did plug my GMAT in along with my undergraduate GPA to a calculator that shows how competitive I am with certain schools. The only schools I was “less competitive” with were Harvard and Stanford. SNUBBY!
Originally when I was thinking about going back to school, my first thoughts were CHEAP and EASY. But now I’m thinking oooh, where could I go?
Now I just have to decide how many times I feel like dropping $80 to find out if I could get into _____________.

Island Time
I’m having some trouble getting off what they call “island time.” Last week I came back to Knoxville and proceeded like I was still on vacation. And it was worth every penny and minute, not gonna lie.
Tomorrow is Monday and I plan to make a fresh start at transitioning back into my life in Knoxville. I told my brother Allen today that I was going to have my life in order by the end of the week. Then I made a to-do list:
- renew driver’s license
- pay parking ticket
- find gainful employment
- buy a parking pass for school
- buy groceries
- unpack my stuff
- figure out how to still graduate in December
I know it’s a tall order. I’ll let you know on Friday how I did.
Hotel, Restaurant, and Alcoholism
Last Thursday I went with a group of students from my program to a Mexican restaurant to drink margaritas and such before our last class of the semester. And no Mother, I did not have an alcoholic beverages… just the other kids… erm, I mean adults!
We cut it close on time getting our checks and paying, so we decided to call our professor to tell him that we would be 5-10 minutes late.
Once we got to class everyone was fine, besides our professor referring to use as “The Margarita Girls!” But I mean really, what major besides hospitality could you get away with drunk dialing your instructors?

How I'm earning my degree
I just got back from Pittsburgh, which I am kind of in love with right now, and I have many things to say about my visit, but first I need to talk about the second most exciting thing that happened to me last week.
I went to Dollywood! For free. For class. How did I do it, you ask?
Just go to UT and major in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism… that’s how! If you do that, I can guarantee you will have to opportunity to go to Dollywood for free at least 2 or 3 times throughout the duration of your studies. Last Wednesday was my second time, and I’m guessing I’ll get another opportunity to go before I graduate this December.
After a day full of rollercoasters, water rides, and Reysheid posing just like this for almost every camera on every ride, my classmates and I relaxed with a quiet little dinner at a small, unheard of local joint called Dixie Stampede.
And if you were wondering, the South rose again!
I especially hate school
… when it infringes on my ridiculously early bedtime.
Anyone want to read a 30-page report on hotel service levels? I’ve been told I wrote it quite well and therefore have a future as a textbook author.
At least I have a future somewhere!
Speaking of, I got a job this summer working at a resort in Martha’s Vineyard. I am excited and scared– but mostly scared because I don’t know if I will have internet access. So it’s like THE BEYOND.
I’m going to make a pledge to myself right now that I will try my best not to talk about anything related to my actual job, but mostly just things related to having an amazing summer at The Vineyard.
And if I “bag a Kennedy” like my friend Christie says I will, so much the better.

A tribute to Laura K
Laura K. What can I say? You are a real women of genius if there ever was.
You’re a trailblazer! A revolutionary! We have quizzes in our Classics class every Friday–but studying be darned, because there’s Free Tetris games to be played. And hey, we’re still making A’s, right?
You brought Fun Dip to class today. FUN DIP! I couldn’t believe my eyes. You gave me such candy-spiration today. What will be next–pop rocks, whistle pops, candy cigarettes… the possibilities are endless. And for that I salute you.
