Witchy

Cocktails of course

Went to Salem last Saturday to visit my old roommate. In the words of Andrew Thomas Cole, it was adorbs. I got my tarot cards read for the first time. Verdict? I should eat more bananas and drink less coffee. Well, the last part I already knew, but I didn’t think the tarot card reading would turn into a nutrition consultation. No matter, I still had the best time ever.

Drifter

I’m kind of a drifter.

When I saw the movie Up in the Air, something about it really spoke to me.  First of all, I love to fly.  And I mean love.  I get to fly tomorrow, and I’m already a little giddy about it.  More than just flying, I love flying alone. It makes me feel independent and adult.

But my love of flying does not necessarily make me a drifter.  My uncommon lack of “stuff” for my age does.  Here’s a list of things I don’t have:

  • permanent residence
  • furniture
  • kitchenware
  • giant television
  • monthly bills

So taken in the context of the movie, my “backpack” would not be very heavy.  Items currently in my “backpack”:  a Toyota Corolla and many many clothes.  That’s about it.

In the next year I foresee my backpack getting heavier.  At some point I will have to start living on my own and paying what I have always suspected that I am allergic to– monthly bills.  AHHHHH!

Hopefully the job I get at the end of my master’s program will involve travel, so I can keep flying despite my “stuff.”

Vacationland!

I just got back from a lovely little trip to the state of Maine.  Maine is so magical a place, that I went to Canada without a passport!  Here’s the proof:

This is me IN CANADA! Without a passport! Suck it, border patrol!!

This is me in front of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s summer home on Campobello Island in… CANADA!  Yes, FDR loved to unwind with the canucks.  I’m surprised I didn’t know about his summer home back in the 5th grade when I researched and played Eleanor Roosevelt in my school’s annual Presidents production.  I’d provide you with photo accompaniment documenting my pageant waving skills, white gloves, and my fancy pillbox hat, but I wouldn’t want to make you insane with jealousy.  (Also I had braces and I can’t let anyone see me like that.)

But I will tell you that I hiked this

I hiked this!!

Interplanetary Travel

About a month ago I traveled down to Florida to visit my dear friend Simona in a little town called Jupiter.

P1010354

Jupiter has:

  • a beautiful beach with an inlet
  • snowbirds for days
  • a Publix on every corner
  • Admiral’s Cove, a four-star platinum country club that would blow your mind

So if you’re looking to live in another planet, make sure you have sunscreen, are old and retired, can reasonably afford to purchase a home with it’s own dock access, and are willing to pay almost double for your groceries on a regular basis.  Jupiter just might be right for you!

Island Time

P1010136

I’m having some trouble getting off what they call “island time.” Last week I came back to Knoxville and proceeded like I was still on vacation. And it was worth every penny and minute, not gonna lie.

Tomorrow is Monday and I plan to make a fresh start at transitioning back into my life in Knoxville. I told my brother Allen today that I was going to have my life in order by the end of the week. Then I made a to-do list:

  1. renew driver’s license
  2. pay parking ticket
  3. find gainful employment
  4. buy a parking pass for school
  5. buy groceries
  6. unpack my stuff
  7. figure out how to still graduate in December

I know it’s a tall order. I’ll let you know on Friday how I did.

The Vineyard

I’m here!
First thing I did on the Vineyard?  Biked 3.5 miles to a Stop & Shop, purchased a small dinner, then biked 3.5 miles back.  Most rewarding meal of my life!

Pittsburgh, Overall

Skyline

Hey Pittsburgh. How are you doing? Good? Me too.

You have a lot of bridges.

You have THREE RIVERS!

You had me the minute I came through Fort Pitt Tunnel.

I will inhabit your wonderful city on a few conditions:

1. Keep Sidney Crosby single for me until I get there.
2. Bump up the tourism industry just a bit so I can actually build a viable career.

That’s only 2 things, can we work this out?

How I'm earning my degree

I just got back from Pittsburgh, which I am kind of in love with right now, and I have many things to say about my visit, but first I need to talk about the second most exciting thing that happened to me last week.

I went to Dollywood! For free. For class. How did I do it, you ask?

Just go to UT and major in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism… that’s how! If you do that, I can guarantee you will have to opportunity to go to Dollywood for free at least 2 or 3 times throughout the duration of your studies. Last Wednesday was my second time, and I’m guessing I’ll get another opportunity to go before I graduate this December.

Reysheid

After a day full of rollercoasters, water rides, and Reysheid posing just like this for almost every camera on every ride, my classmates and I relaxed with a quiet little dinner at a small, unheard of local joint called Dixie Stampede.

The Others

And if you were wondering, the South rose again!

What up, slut?

Hello all 3 readers of mine. Are you having a good weekend? Because mine could be much better let me tell you. I decided to take a small mini-vacation this weekend to Pittsburgh to visit Rachel. You guys know Rachel, she seems all nice and stuff. BUT OH ARE YOU WRONG! So so wrong.

I arrive at her dwelling place around 7:30 pm last night. And as everyone knows when you get off the road from driving for quite a long time the first thing you want to do is use the bathroom. So I immediately requested to use the bathroom and was presented with the following:

Danger zone

I mean really guys, do you have any business inviting people over to your house when it looks like this inside?  I don’t even seen a toilet in here!
