Happy Birthday to my sister Maura!

What I’m Reading

November 8th, 2008

I haven’t been reading any of your lovely personal blogs lately.  To be honest, if you aren’t writing something about personal finance you will have a hard time catching my attention.

Why?  I don’t know myself.  It’s not like I have any debt to consolidate, or credit card balances to snowball a la Dave Ramsey.  Nor do I have money to invest–although, I did recently open a savings account for the first time since high school.  And yes, I did it because I have been consuming personal finance blogs like crack.  CRACK!  (Say crack again.  CRACK!)

I get excited to bring dinner leftovers to work for lunch and think about how much money I am saving.  Am I crazy?  Yes, possibly.  All I know is this is a lot healthier than that period of time where I was obsessed with celebrity gossip blogs.

Here are my favorites:

A post about Halloween

October 26th, 2008

I don’t like Halloween much. It’s a children’s holiday that stands in between me and my Christmas. Yeah, MY CHRISTMAS. I love Christmas so much I have decided to own it.

But this year? I don’t hate Halloween like I usually do. And maybe that’s because I suckered my boyfriend into dressing up as a penguin named Jello. At an event called Boo at the Zoo, Will posed for countless photos, gave hugs, and high-fived all for the sake of promoting my friend Megan’s outdoor ice rink.

Oh, and I may not hate Halloween so much either because I got to see some of the cutest costumes ever. Exhibit A:

But don’t worry Rachel, I’ll go back to hating Halloween next year like normal.  Maybe you won’t hate Christmas so much this year?  Oh, who am I kidding…

Oh yeah! That’s right.

I have found myself quite preoccupied as of late.  But today I had quite a few moments where I was able to snap out of it and get back to the little things that make me… me!

  • At a restaurant for lunch, I remembered that I have a lot of wonderful friends and while keeping up with them is hard, it is not to be skipped over.
  • At the gym, I remembered what it was like to love exercising, especially how I feel afterwards.
  • At Target, I remembered how much I love Christmas time as I browsed the cards, stockings, and lights.
  • At home, I remembered that I was a girl and painted my nails.
  • On the internet, I remembered how much I love Ryan Adams as I listened to his new album– Cardinology.

Now over the next week I hope I can snap myself out of it long enough to remember that I am graduating in December and should be looking for jobs.  Oh economy, please recover so that I may be gainfully employed.

New job

October 2nd, 2008

Me?  I work downtown.

It’s been two weeks, and I am not yet tired of saying that.  Today on my lunch break I walked to the bank, then to Subway.  Delicious Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki!  This is the life.  If I didn’t work downtown, I would have had to drive to obtain such a sweet sandwich.  What a horror that would have been!

So yeah, I work downtown.
